Caravan missing from Orava campsite

Vehicle thefts in Slovakia are nothing new, but they are increasingly not limited to cars. Thieves are now also choosing caravans and motorhomes, which they can quickly tow away and then sell without any major problems.

With the growing popularity of travel and caravanning, these vehicles are becoming an attractive target. And one such case is currently being handled by the HAKA – Car Wanted initiative, which has been helping owners search for stolen vehicles for years. The Žilinak.sk portal also reports on the case.

Disappeared in the early morning

The latest case took place in Orava, specifically in Námestovo, where a caravan disappeared from a campsite. The theft occurred on Thursday, March 12 at approximately 5:50 a.m. at Autocamp near Studnička.

According to available information, it is a Tabbert Comtesse trailer from 2009, white in color, which was imported from Germany shortly before. The vehicle has not yet been registered in Slovakia and had a German transport registration plate GI04286.

It can also be identified by the production number VIN: WTA68443M6W270453. Among the recognizable features are the marking “Comtesse” on the sides and front and the inscription “Tabbert special” on the back.

The owner is appealing to the public for help and believes that people’s attention may be the key to finding it.

HAKA involves the public: one detail can make the difference

The HAKA initiative has long been based on the principle of public involvement. It publishes current cases via social networks and calls on people to pay attention to suspicious vehicles or situations.

It has been shown in the past that it is thanks to such information that stolen vehicles have been tracked down. In this case too, a single photo, sighting of the trailer on the road or information about its movement can help.

If anyone notices this trailer in Orava or in the wider area, it is important to contact the police on 158. Information can also be provided to the HAKA team or directly to the owner.

Caravans as a new target for thieves

This case also points to a wider problem. Caravans and caravans are becoming an increasingly frequent target for thefts. Unlike passenger cars, they can often simply be hitched to another vehicle and driven away.

Thieves are also attracted by the fact that caravans are often parked in less frequented places – in campsites, parking lots or near cottages. Often without active security and without supervision.

Modern thefts are no longer just about force. Thieves use technology, fast procedures and know exactly what they are doing. It is all the more important to think about security before the vehicle becomes a target.

How to protect a caravan from theft?

In the case of caravans, it is not enough to rely only on mechanical security. The key is a combination of multiple layers of protection and modern technologies that can react immediately.

One solution is, for example, the Pandora Camper PRO system, which is designed specifically for motorhomes and caravans. It offers multi-level protection including:

  • Detection of movement, tilt and vehicle manipulation
  • Protection of doors, windows and the entire living space
  • Real-time alerts via mobile application
  • GPS vehicle localization
  • Special interior protection mode even while the crew is inside

Thanks to the online connection, the owner has a constant overview of the vehicle’s status and can immediately react to any attempted intrusion.

Prevention is always better than dealing with the consequences

Cases like the one from Orava show that caravan theft can come unexpectedly and often without any warning. It only takes a few minutes and the vehicle is gone.

Therefore, security should not be the last step, but a natural part of caravan ownership. Modern systems can significantly reduce the risk of theft and at the same time increase the chance of quickly locating the vehicle.
