As reported by the Bratislavak.sk portal, cases of car thefts and break-ins are on the rise again in Bratislava. The latest alerts come mainly from the Ružinov district, where residents report repeated incidents directly in public parking lots – often under the windows of apartment buildings and without any visible damage to the vehicles.
What is most worrying is not only the number of cases, but their method. Thieves are fast, inconspicuous and increasingly often target not only entire vehicles, but also their most valuable parts.
When a car disappears silently – without broken glass and noise
According to residents, several incidents occurred on Daxner Square in December. In one case, thieves failed to steal a white Volkswagen Passat Combi, but they still stole it – without a broken window or visible force.
In another case, the owner lost a Toyota Yaris that was stolen using keys obtained during a previous robbery. This is an increasingly common scenario – the vehicle simply disappears, without any sign of a break-in.
For car owners, such a moment is all the more frustrating. The car was parked in a well-lit area, right in front of the entrance, and yet it disappeared or was stolen.
Catalytic converters also in the crosshairs: quick profit, high damage
The thefts of catalytic converters, which were reported by residents in the Kuchajda area, also deserve increased attention. Thieves act quickly – they lift the vehicle, cut off the catalytic converter and are gone in a few minutes.
However, the problem is not only the theft itself. Incorrect lifting of cars often results in damage to the body, chassis or exhaust system. In addition to the loss of the catalytic converter, owners suffer other, considerable damage.
As residents point out, thieves today are not selective – they take everything that has value and can be quickly sold.
Growing frustration among residents: “Even a well-lit place won’t stop them”
Discussions under posts on social networks reveal people’s growing dissatisfaction. Many agree that this is a long-term problem in locations such as Tomášikova Street, Kuchajda or Ostredky.
Opinions are emerging that there is a lack of police patrols and preventive checks. One resident pointed out that his car was stolen repeatedly – once without visible damage, later with a broken lock. The vehicle is parked directly under public lighting.
These experiences show that visibility or a busy place alone are no longer a guarantee of safety today.
How to protect yourself when thieves change tactics?
The reality is that car theft is moving to a silent, technological level. That is why it is important to combine caution with active vehicle security.
Modern Pandora Alarm systems offer more than just an acoustic alarm:
- Detection of unauthorized entry and manipulation – even without breaking a window
- Instant notifications to the mobile application when the vehicle is moving or disturbed
- Protection against battery disconnection and signal interference (depending on the type of system)
- Possibility of vehicle localization, which helps in quick response and cooperation with the police
The goal is not only to respond to theft, but to significantly reduce the chance that the vehicle will become an easy target.
The cases from Ružinov, which Bratislavak.sk draws attention to, show that thefts of cars and their parts are once again a reality of everyday life in the city.
Thieves are not deterred by light, movement or proximity to homes – speed and stealth are the key.
That is why it is worth thinking about securing your vehicle before ordinary parking becomes an unpleasant experience. Pandora Alarm offers solutions that keep up with modern methods of theft and give car owners at least one certainty – that their vehicle is not defenseless.
